The Thermoacoustic Research Group led by Prof. Ercang Luohas made important breakthrough on the area of higher power thermoacoustic prime mover/ generator technology. A prototype called “Acoustically Resonant Double-acting Thermoacoustic Generator” has been proposed and successfully developed. Experiments show that the output acoustic power of this system reaches 10kW, and the output electricity power is 7.2kW. Its highest heat to electricity efficiency is 20%. This is the most powerful thermoacoustic generator system in the world. It’s also the first prototype based on the new thermoacoustic conversion procedure. Theoretically, this new type of thermoacoustic engine is suitable for output power ranging from 10kW to MW level with wide range of applications.
